MR hosts its first congress of the year

On 12 January, Mouvement Réformateur (MR) – one of the ALDE members in Belgium – gathered its members for the first congress since the election of its leader Georges-Louis Bouchez, who started in his role late last year.

Recalling the commitment he made during his election campaign, Bouchez highlighted: “Activists, sympathisers and all those who share our values will find their place in our Mouvement which I wish to be inclusive, open and respectful.”

Looking ahead to 2020 – a year which will be particularly busy for the party – Bouchez also outlined some of the priorities for the future.

“We will launch 10 debates on themes related to the future. The liberals were part of creating this country and we must also be there for the bicentennial of Belgium in 2030.”

In 2020, the MR will also continue to demonstrate that it is a responsible, modern and open party that is connected to society. "We are the movement of equality of possibilities and we must be at the base of the redeployment of the democrats," said Bouchez. "This is why I am liberal, reformer, and proud of it."
