New season of Liberal Stories starts with a look at Western Balkans

Continuing on the success of past episodes highlighting liberal leaders and their fight against the pandemic across Europe, the new season of the exclusive Liberal Stories interview series focuses on Europe’s future.

Starting off the season is Sabina Ćudić from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is Vice-President of ALDE Party member Naša stranka and a member of federal parliament.

For Ćudić, Sarajevo could be the perfect “testing ground for the future of Europe” and Western Balkans as a region can also be instrumental for Europe’s future. For her, the region could help answer questions such as what it means to be European today or where the European borders are. “In the Balkans, destiny is tied to European destiny”, she notes.

The capital city Sarajevo might be small in size but it’s a “place that shaped European and world history”, she adds while reflecting on the relation between Europe and Sarajevo.

“Simply imagining what they did after 1945 under such an incredible moment in history to find hope and vision for the next century – I think it’s marvelous and I would love to find that within my generation, which I think is more cynical about the future. So in that sense, the creative work I do is a creative outlet about finding that hope and vision as well” .

Ćudić also has a strong message for involving youth in the discussions around the future of Europe: “I want to bring the chairs for young Bosnians to the table where they can with their European counterparts truly participate and decide what the future of Europe is.”
