Liberal International - ALDE Party Joint Statement on the ‘Election’ of the President of Georgia
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has been a terrible crisis, but it has also opened many doors for EU health policy and created potential for a European health standard, Nicolae Ștefănuță MEP from ALDE Party member USR says in the latest episode of ‘US – unique stories of liberals’ video series.
Nation-wide COVID-19 vaccination rollouts and their successes and failures have dominated the European discourse in these last months. For Ștefănuță, the polarised discussions between citizens for and against the vaccine could have implications for our democracies.
“I think, in recent times and perhaps also driven by social media, people lost a bit of touch with what democracy means. We need to re-establish this understanding, the cherished tradition of democracy,” Ștefănuță says.
When it comes to the EU overcoming this crisis, Ștefănuță highlights the importance of cooperation and working together:
“With the advent of climate change, we will have more and more dramatic situations that none of us on our own can solve. We need to prepared to step up together, the 27 of us, putting money together, putting vision, putting programmes in place for the future.”
