News from Individual Membership

On Wednesday, all individual members who are up-to-date with the payment of their membership fee received an e-mail about upcoming Individual Membership elections. What can ALDE Party’s individual members expect? Next month, we will hold a Europe-wide by-election to elect a new Steering Committee member. Members will also be asked to endorse the Mission and Vision for individual membership.

In addition, in Belgium, Italy and the United Kingdom we will proceed to an election for country coordinators.

What if you haven't received the aforementioned e-mail and still would like to participate? Probably you are not up-to-date with the payment of your membership fee. Don’t worry, shortly you will receive a reminder to pay for your membership fee. If you pay before the end of March, you still will be able to participate in the elections in April.

On Thursday 15 March, individual members in France met at the European Parliament office in Paris to discuss European defence and security as well as the topic of immigration and Europe. After an introduction by the country coordinator Yves D. Robert members discussed on the two subjects, being inspired by written contributions coming from Individual members in Paris, South of France and the Rhone Alps region. To further these debates, two persons were nominated to steer the discussions. Dr. Robert Crane will lead the discussions on defence while on immigration Alexandre Kergadellan will take the lead. The objective of their work is to introduce a proposal for a resolution for the “Transnational Colloquium” an event that is scheduled to be organised on 13 June in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The next day, members from the Rhone Alpes region met in Lyon to discuss similar topics as in Paris. This meeting was also the opportunity to welcome new members and develop a specific programme for the area, including the organisation of a trip to Strasburg and Nice for meetings, but also a big conference with new members next year. Mr François Coutin will coordinate the work to draft texts. Before the end of April there will be a regional coordinator in this area.

During his visit, country coordinator Yves Robert had the possibility to present with success ALDE Party’s Individual Membership to an event on European democracy. The conference was organised by individual member Pierre Jouvenat, with the participation of about a hundred participants as well as a Member of the European Parliament.

In Germany, members met up in Düsseldorf on Sunday. With 10 participants, existing and new members, as well as members from ALDE member party FDP, the participants had interesting discussions on a Sunday afternoon over an Indian buffet lunch. They discussed various topics like:

One of the participants, from Aachen, volunteered to organize the next event. The event is scheduled to be held in June.
