At the doorstep, ALDE Party President Hans van Baalen MEP commented on the trade war: "For ALDE it is not understandable that allies like the European Union and the United States will be in a trade war. The measures taken by President Donald Trump on steel and cars, among others, will not improve the situation of American workers, only free trade and free competition will do so. Trump is doing the worst for American and European relations. European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstrom will be tough. I hope a tough stand will prevent a trade war."
