Ahead of the European Committee of the Regions plenary session, Renew Europe CoR’s Donatella Porzi set out a list of actions for cities and regions to lead the fight against gender-based violence.
Porzi’s report on “Stopping Gender-based Violence” will be debated and voted on at the plenary session taking place in Brussels on 29-30 November.
The recent murder of 22-year-old student Giulia Cecchettin in Italy proves that violence against women is an ongoing phenomenon in our societies, one which we must end as fast as possible.
Porzi, a regional councillor in Umbria, actively fights for women’s rights through the commission of inquiry on femicide and any form of gender violence, established at her own proposal in the Italian region.
“As a woman, as a mother of two young men and as a teacher, I hope that one day we will live in a world without an International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. I hope that one day gender-based violence will just be a relic of the past,” said Porzi.
