In Cyprus, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE Party) and the Democratic Alignment (DEPA) of Cyprus support a solution to the Cyprus Problem through the agreed framework of a Bizonal Bicommunal Federation with the goal of achieving a reunified island.
The current status quo is unsustainable. We fully endorse the ongoing efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General to appoint an envoy tasked with exploring opportunities to resume negotiations and work towards a comprehensive resolution.
The process should resume from the point where negotiations were previously suspended in Crans Montana, Switzerland, adhering to the Guterres Framework, and in alignment with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council while upholding EU values and principles and adhering to international law.
ALDE Party and DEPA express their support for the European Union's call for a prompt resumption of negotiations and its willingness to actively participate in assisting all phases of a UN-led process.
