Over the past three weeks, Russia has launched a series of indiscriminate air strikes all over Ukraine causing numerous civil casualties and destroying many buildings and key infrastructure using Iran-made kamikaze drones.
On 17 October alone, at least four people were killed in an apartment building in Kyiv, including a pregnant woman. Four other people were killed in Sumy on a drone attack on an energy facility.
This is only one example of the extent of the damage Putin and his allies are causing to Ukrainians.
But Ukraine does not give up. They keep fighting and taking back occupied territories from the Russian army’s hands.
And we liberals do not give up either. We keep pushing for the EU and for national governments to do all they can to support Ukraine.
We welcome the European Union’s Council decision to set up a Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) and the allocation of an additional 500 million euros to further support the capabilities and resilience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
But we also believe that there is much citizens can do to help.
“Ukraine is fighting for its European future and for the values we all share. It is a struggle of democracy against brutal slavery and violence. Support, help, be together!” encourages Petras Auštrevičius MEP, shadow rapporteur on Ukraine.
A few months ago, we teamed up with the NGO Promote Ukraine for a fundraising campaign to provide items such as: armoured vests, helmets, night vision devices, thermal cameras, radio systems, tactical clothing, individual medicine kits and equipment for hospitals to Ukrainians on the front lines.
You can help by donating any amount to Promote Ukraine, specifying which type of equipment your donation should be used for.
