On 1 November, ALDE Party member VVD in the Netherlands confirmed ALDE Party Vice-President Malik Azmani MEP will be the party’s lead candidate for the European elections in 2024.  

Vice-President Azmani was elected a Member of the European Parliament since 2019 as VVD’s lead candidate, and has since served as First Vice-President of Renew Europe and as the leader of the party’s delegation in Brussels. 

His nomination was confirmed by the National Administrative Consultation of regional chairs and the central board, and communicated to members by party chair Eric Wetzels. 

“It is a great honour and a great responsibility. After all, we live in an uncertain world in which a lot is coming our way. We are not alone; the Netherlands stands strong in Europe. Together we can do a lot. I want to continue working for that! I would like to thank all regional chairmen and the VVD Executive Committee for their trust,” said Vice-President Azmani.

Vice-President Azmani has focused on policy work around migration, security, justice and foreign affairs issues during his time in the European Parliament. 

In particular, he pushed for strong European sanctions towards Russia and support for Ukraine, and for new rules to cut funds from EU countries that violate the rule of law mechanism.
