The ALDE Party and the International Republican Institute (IRI), with the support of ALDE Party Vice-President Alexander Graff Lambsdorff and IRI Vice President Scott Mastic, hosted an online, closed-door roundtable entitled ‘The Transatlantic Partnership: charting a common path to rebalance trade with China and safeguard our democratic values’ on 29 June.
The event examined opportunities under the new Biden administration for the US and Europe to chart a common path in rebalancing the trading relationship with China, address the impact of distortive trade practices and safeguard the respect for human rights, and social and environmental protection.
The main speakers were Molly Montgomery, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State, and Alexander Graff Lambsdorff, ALDE Party Vice-President and Member of German Parliament. They were joined by liberal policymakers from national and European levels as well as representatives of ALDE member parties.
