Democrats 66 is a progressive liberal party founded in 1966 with the purpose of revitalizing and renewing Dutch democracy. Its outright rejection of political ideology marked the birth of the first program-based, pragmatic political party in Dutch politics.

D66’s guiding principles include defending freedom of conscience, striving for the greatest possible individual freedom based on equal opportunity, furthering clear and consequential politics, encouraging sustainable economic growth for the benefit of all citizens, and completing the political and economic integration of the peoples and countries of Europe. Currently, D66 is one of four governing parties in the Netherlands and holds 19 out of 150 seats in Dutch Parliament.
