Liberals call for increased climate ambitions

On 8 November, ALDE Party and Liberal International hosted an online roundtable event on the fringes of COP26. Liberal leaders from partner organisations shared their views and exchanged information on the ongoing UN Conference on Climate Change to align common aims. The result was a common pledge calling for stronger international cooperation and increased climate ambitions. The event was chaired by ALDE Party acting co-President Timmy Dooley and President of Liberal International Hakima El Haité.

The journey continues for the Alliance Of Her Academy Class of 2020

Last week, the 18 participants of the Alliance Of Her Class of 2020 met in Domaine De Ronchinne, Belgium, to hear from inspiring speakers, such as alumna Emma Murphy and ALDE Party Vice President Annelou Van Egmond. The AOH Class of 2020 will meet again for the final time for their graduation session which takes place just before the Alliance Of Her Summit at the end of November.

Ivica Puljak elected new President of Centar

Following a vote of delegates during an online electoral assembly meeting, Ivica Puljak has been elected as the new leader of Centar, one of ALDE Party member parties in Croatia. Puljak, who was elected earlier this year as the Mayor of the country’s second-largest city, was elected President of the party by large majority. In his speech, he spoke of the importance the local elections have for the party and Croatia as a whole.

First Liberal Regional Ministers Summit convenes

On 8 November, the first Liberal Regional Ministers Summit, organised by the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions and chaired by its President François Decoster, brought together ministers from five different countries to discuss the post-COVID-19 recovery together with Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank.

Renew Europe CoR: investing in our future through education

Member of the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions, Councillor Gillian Coughlan, Mayor of Cork County and a teacher herself, discussed the place of the teachers at the heart of the European education area during Renew Europe webinar at the end of October. During the event, Coughlan called to invest in and to value teachers.

AIM elect their next Council delegate

Elections to become the next Council delegate for the ALDE Party’s individual members section (AIM) took place from Monday 1 November to Sunday 7 November. The results are in: Diana Severati will be representing the AIM at the next ALDE Party Council meeting in Rome on 10-11 December.

Belarus Border: Lukashenko must pay a price

This week, Renew Europe called for fresh sanctions and accompanying measures targeting the Lukashenko regime in Belarus and Mr. Lukashenko himself, following his continued trafficking and exploitation of migrants. The Group has also urged the Polish authorities to ensure EU asylum laws and human rights of the affected trafficking victims are upheld.

Renew Europe MEPs investigate unsolved ETA crimes in Spain

Last week, MEPs from the Renew Europe Group joined a European Parliament mission to Spain to investigate unsolved killings perpetrated by the Basque Country terrorist and separatist organisation ETA. The delegation heard testimonies from victims of the ETA, victims’ organisations, judges, prosecutors and institutional and police officials involved in the fight against the terrorist organisation.
