On 2 September, ALDE Party continued its Manifesto town hall series near Kaunas, Lithuania, to gather inputs for its manifesto ahead of the European elections in 2024.
The event featured a discussion around the European Union’s security and defence policies, including how to reach energy independence, with politicians from ALDE Party member Laisvės partija including party leader and Minister for Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė MP, as well as Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament Vytautas Mitalas MP, Morgana Danielė MP and Marius Matijošaitis MP.
Participants shared their thoughts on strengthening the role of the EU in the world and shared concerns about the war in Ukraine, as well as how the EU can continue to offer support during the war while paving a European path for Ukraine.
During the town hall, citizens called for stronger application of the rule of law in Poland and Hungary and asked to find ways to go beyond existing EU mechanisms. Finally, they implored to continue fighting populism and disinformation, especially from Russia in light of next year’s European elections.
This was the fourth of ALDE Party’s town halls organised to hear citizens’ thoughts and concerns ahead of the European elections in 2024, following similar events in Denmark, Bulgaria and Portugal. The outcome of these discussions will feed into the ALDE Party Manifesto drafting process.
ALDE Party will continue its consultation process with a town hall in Rome on 30 September. Click here to find out more and register for the event, or share your thoughts online.
