The goals of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) are to give people the capacities to make something extraordinary out of their lives in the Netherlands. The party was founded in January 1948 out of different political parties. In 2010, for the first time in history, the VVD became the largest political party in the Netherlands with Mark Rutte as its party leader and is currently still the governing party in the country.

The VVD is a liberal party that values individual freedom, both in a mental and material sense, as its greatest asset. Other liberal principles emanate from freedom and responsibility: equality, tolerance and social justice. The VVD is optimistic about the future and the opportunities for the next generation. Therefore the VVD continues to aim for a safer, free and prosperous future for The Netherlands.
