4th Hans van Baalen Town Hall takes place virtually

Last week, ALDE Party and FDP co-hosted the fourth of a series of events on the future of Europe. The event counted with ALDE Party acting Co-Presidents Senator Timmy Dooley and Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP. Citizens and representatives from across Europe joined a distinguished panel of speakers and shared their ideas, thoughts and questions on issues related to the future of Europe.

Vestager-Breton present defence package at unstable times for security in Europe

EU Commission Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager and Commissioner Thierry Breton have put forward a set of initiatives to enhance integration and competitiveness of the European defence market, reducing EU’s dependency in the security and defence areas and protecting it from the new threats. These proposals will contribute to the upcoming EU Strategic Compass on Security and Defence.

The role of youth is key for Europe’s Future

On 11 February, ALDE Party hosted the first episode of the Liberal Talks series via Twitter Spaces, with LYMEC President Antoaneta Asenova-Bihlmayer and LYMEC Vice-President Dan-Aria Sucuri as guest speakers. The live audio event focused on the role of youth for Europe’s future and their goals and challenges in the framework of the European Year of Youth.

Andrej Babiš re-elected leader of ANO for final two-year term

Former Czech Republic Prime Minister Andrej Babiš was re-elected chair of ALDE Party member ANO for two more years, during a national congress held on 12 February. Babiš was the only candidate for the post, received nominations from all 14 regional branches of the party and was re-elected with the votes of 76 of the 95 delegates. The party also elected a deputy chair and four vice-presidents.

Citizens debate on the future of Europe

On 12 February, Renew Europe Group brought together more than 500 citizens in 50 cities across the EU to continue discussions on the future of Europe. Citizens and representatives from Renew Europe, including several MEPs, shared their ideas and priorities for the upcoming years including environment, the role of the European Union in the world, and democracy and the rule of law.

Individual members elect their 2022 Congress delegates

Over the past week, ALDE Party's Individual Members and Liberal Associates had the chance to elect their delegates for the ALDE Party Congress 2022 taking place in Dublin, Ireland on 2-4 June. The results are in, and we would like to wish a warm, heartfelt congratulations to Sarah Zickler and Máté Bozóky!

Renew Europe seeks to preserve and strengthen EU civic space

In recent years, threats, harassment, stigmatisation and smear campaigns against Civil Society Organisations have shrunken their ability to function in several EU Member States. In a new report led by Anna Donáth MEP, Renew Europe calls for a series of actions to ensure civic space is preserved and strengthened at the local, regional and national levels throughout the EU.

Renew Europe leads crackdown on Golden Passport & Visa Schemes

Renew Europe has for several years campaigned against so-called 'golden passport' and 'golden visa' schemes that allow wealthy people to buy their way into EU residency and citizenship through unfair and corrupt practices. These efforts are now paying off, through the legislative own-initiative report on the citizenship and residence by investment schemes led by Sophie in 't Veld MEP.
