Liberals engaged in humanitarian aid efforts to support Ukraine

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February, ALDE Party and its members have taken action to provide humanitarian aid and donations to support the Ukrainian people, and are working to facilitate access to EU territory for Ukrainian refugees. You can still participate in ALDE Party’s donation campaign.

ALDE Party Co-President meets with leaders in Ukraine

On 5-8 March, ALDE Party acting Co-President Senator Timmy Dooley travelled to Ukraine with Billy Kelleher MEP. They were invited by Sluga Narodu, the political party founded by Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. There, they met with political leaders and gathered first-hand insights about the situation in the country.

Liberals applaud the role of Ukrainian women in politics on International Women’s Day

On March 8, we mark International Women’s Day. This year, European liberals are particularly mindful of the extraordinary work and bravery of liberal Ukrainian women in politics. ALDE Party is proud to have among our ranks brave women such as Kira Rudik MP, leading figure in the Ukrainian resistance, and to have supported more than 15 female political leaders in Ukraine through the Alliance Of Her Academy programme.

Dita Charanzová nominated to the MEP Awards 2022

On 9 March, ALDE Party Vice-President Dita Charanzová was nominated for the MEP Awards 2022 in the category of Consumer Rights, for her contribution to and accomplishments in protecting the rights of consumers in the European Union. Eight other Renew Europe Group MEPs, five of which are affiliated with ALDE Party, were nominated in different categories. The ceremony will take place on 29 June.

Ambition, talent and energy launch the The Alliance Of Her Academy first Youth Class

The Alliance Of Her hosted its first session for 2022 of its world-class academy series over four days from March 3-6. In partnership with LYMEC, this was the first time the Alliance Of Her supported a class of talented liberal women in politics all under 30.

On 6 March, we celebrated the 90th anniversary of the birth of Professor Bronisław Geremek, Poland’s architect of liberal democracy and visionary European who devoted his life to shaping a new vision of Europe. His legacy as a defender of European values and NATO as an alliance of democratic nations protecting civic rights and liberties resonates today more than ever.

Ukraine and Democracy in Europe addressed at Summit of Regions & Cities

The biennial Summit of Regions and Cities, organised by the European Committee of the Regions, took place in Marseille on 3-4 March. The event focused on how EU regions and municipalities can provide support to Ukrainian refugees and to Ukrainian subnational authorities. Key liberal leaders such as Guy Verhofstadt MEP and Renew Europe CoR President François Decoster took part in different panels.

ALDE Secretariat welcomes new HR Assistant

This month, the ALDE Party Secretariat welcomed a new HR Assistant to the team: Adrien Funck, from Belgium. In this role, he will assist the HR Manager in staff management tasks. He will also be involved in the improvement of the HR procedures and politics. Welcome Adrien!

Renew Europe launches Simone Veil Platform on International Women’s Day

Yesterday on International Women's Day, Renew Europe launched a digital platform for the Simone Veil Pact to collect support and signatures for the creation of a Pact that accelerates the fight for gender equality. The Pact commits signatories to adopting the most progressive measures in women's rights at their level of responsibility.

Renew Europe leads report on protection of civil society

Increased threats, harassment and smears against Civil Society Organisations has limited the capacity of civic space to operate in the last years. To counter this development, a new report on the Shrinking Space for Civil Society by Anna Donáth MEP puts forward proposals to preserve and strengthen civic space at local, regional and national level throughout the EU.
